Hunting Black Wildebeest in South Africa

  1. Hunting Species

Black Wildebeest or White Tail Gnu

Is an open plains species, it avoids any cover even short bushes, so it has a total view of its surrounds for safety.

Live in good size herds from 15 - 35 animals in a herd. Big bulls mostly are alone.

They like to run in circles in a line and the lead back tracks on the line so you see animals running in opposite directions on the same line/area, this creates confusion for predators and hunters and is a very effective tactic for their safety.

Cows or females weigh 300 pounds and Bulls 450 pounds

Shots are mostly 200-300 yds.

Eat Grass mostly and need water most days, but can survive days without water.

This is a tough animal to bring down, so needs good shot placement.
