Trophies from your South African Hunting Safari

You need to choose a Taxidermist in SA for mounting or decide about Raw Prep ( 'dip and Pack' ) and shipping to the USA or to your home country.

Your decision only needs to be made at the end of your hunt, or latest about 2 weeks after your hunt.

Beware of using local taxidermists who are unknown to us.

There are various local taxidermists but the choice is yours.

Taxidermy Africa, who we use entirely for almost 30 years and who we and the international taxidermy community recommend highly.

Contact info is :

website :  http://www.taxidermyafrica.com/

email :   info@taxidermyafrica.com

Email them for exact latest fees and more info and their Price list.

On Taxidermy Africa price list Note : read each column on the taxidermy price list separately as a separate job for the type of work you want to be done. Eg. the Shoulder mount column, INCLUDES the cost of tanning the cape and no other cost other than in the shoulder mount column is payable.

Raw Prep is Dip and pack for the whole animal, eg. cape, back skin, feet and skull with horns, and then only the cost in the dip and pack / raw prep column is payable. Dip and pack / Raw prep does not apply to mounting, tanning or any of the other columns on the price list. If you are only wanting dip and pack/ raw prep on eg. ONLY your skull and horns of an animal then the cost may be less than that shown on the price list for that animal.

ADD to the Above quotation  :

FREIGHT :

$1,700

for RAW PREP / DIP and PACK Quote as above for the crate containing the above 4 trophies, from the Taxidermist in SA to the USA.

Crate must enter the USA at a custom point, eg. JFK, WA, DFW, ORD etc.

Air freight includes insurance for all trophies fees and the taxidermy cost of your trophies

and is only payable to the Freight Agent about 4 months after you have paid the SA taxidermist for dip and pack

Sea freight is a very very bad option.

( Customs clearing charges in the USA is approximately $ 600 PER HUNTER, which is included in the above freight cost )

Transportation to Hunters taxidermist which could be anywhere in the USA (the distance will be the telling factor) is approximately

per crate = $ 500.

So, the

TOTAL for Dip and Pack COSTS would be :

Taxidermist $ 800

Freight $ 1700 + 500

---------------------------------------------------------

TOTAL COST = approximately $ 3,000

Which is about $ 750 / animal on average

(Then add cost of Taxidermy in the USA / at home)

EXAMPLES of Total cost for getting your Trophies home, based on 2023 prices, cannot be exact as flight & courier prices can change due to oil / fuel prices varying:

Crate : if more than 1 hunter, each hunter will have his own permits but all animals can go in 1 crate. But then add Clearance fees in the USA of about $ 600 for the second hunter. so, if 2 hunters and they each shot 2 of the 4 above trophies, the cost of the taxidermy and the freight and the delivery to your taxidermist would be the same as above , but then add 2nd hunters clearance fees, then total would be $800 + 1700 + 600 + 500 =

$ 3,600 ( $1,800 / hunter for his 2 trophies )

Crate : if more than 1 hunter, each hunter will have his own permits but all animals can go in 1 crate.

$ 10,800 ( $5,400 / hunter for his 3 trophies )

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FREIGHT Insurance is included and is calculated on the current average trophy fee and taxidermy price for all your animals.
The daily rate portion of the hunt cost, flights and other outside of the safari accommodation is not included in the freight insurance.

Freight Insurance would cover loss or damage from when your crate is picked up at Taxidermist up to the USA Port of Entry. If lost or damaged, insurance will cover a replacement item or repairs from a local Taxidermist in the country of destination.

If you choose to use a South African Taxidermist other than Taxidermy Africa we only have limited storage for your Trophies so they should be collected promptly.
We have a permanent long term relationship with Taxidermy Africa and they are punctual about picking up your Trophies from us.

Your trophies will be taken care of by RHS until they are picked up by the taxidermist.

All taxidermy payments go direct to the Taxidermist.

Freight and clearance costs are paid direct to the freight company.

When taxidermist picks up your trophies at RHS, they will contact you directly with an Invoice via email.

If you have your own taxidermist, you should contact them BEFORE THE TRIP about the best way to handle the trophies coming back to the U.S. i.e. should they be shipped directly to a tannery or to them ? Trophies may only go to a registered to receive overseas hunted animals ( this is USA / EU animal health law )

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CERTAIN SPECIES  / PACKING, SHIPPING and IMPORT - Swine, Primates, Rodentia, Cities

1) There are no special conditions on any mounted trophies going to the USA apart from the normal export import permit regulations. This includes Swine, Primates, and Rodentia. All can be packed together with other mounted species.

2) Dip & Pack : The status quo remains wherein Swine, Primates, and Rodentia need to be packed separately for inspection by USDA and / or CDC, so that the balance of the trophies are not delayed in delivery, or can be delivered independently to a different final destination depending on the requirements of the importer. ie these usually are in their own crate INSIDE YOUR main crate. USDA animals usually attract a USDA inspection fee of about $ 50 - $ 90.

3) Certain species will incur additional charges on arrival in your country eg. USA : USDA, FWS, CDC, CITIES Exam / inspection and permit fees, which are minimal but there. eg. Monkeys, Baboons, Warthog ( disease check about $ 90 ), Cats and Bontebok ( Cities import permit is about

$ 70 / animal ), see more on this at :
