Trophies from your South African Hunting Safari

You need to choose a Taxidermist in SA for mounting or decide about Raw Prep ( 'dip and Pack' ) and shipping to the U.S. or your home country.

There are various local taxidermists but the choice is yours.

Taxidermy Africa, who we use entirely for over 25 years and recommend highly, contact info is :

website :  http://www.taxidermyafrica.com/

email :   info@taxidermyafrica.com

Email them for fees and more info and their Price list.

On Taxidermy Africa price list Note : read each column on taxidermy price list seperately as a seperate job for type of work you want done. Eg. Shoulder mount column, INCLUDES cost of tanning of the the cape and no other cost other than in shoulder mount column is payable.

Raw Prep is Dip and pack for the whole animal, eg. cape, backskin, feet and skull with horns and then only the cost in the dip and pack / raw prep column is payable. Dip and pack / Raw prep does not apply to mounting, tanning or any of the other columns on the price list. If you are only wanting dip and pack/ raw prep on eg. ONLY your skull and horns of an animal then the cost will be less than that shown on the price list for that animal.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the prices of Taxidermy Africa, Insurance is included and is calculated on the current average trophy fee and taxidermy price for all your animals.
The hunt, flights and safari accommodation is not insurable.
If you choose to use a South African Taxidermist other than Taxidermy Africa we only have limited storage for your Trophies so they should be collected promptly.
We have a permanent long term relationship with Taxidermy Africa and they are punctual about picking up your Trophies from us.
The cost of either Dip and Pack / raw prep or Mounting includes insurance on all your trophies.
Your trophies will be taken care of by RHS until they are picked up by the taxidermist.
All taxidermy payments go direct to the Taxidermist.
When they pick up your trophies, they will contact you directly with an Invoice via email.
If you have your own taxidermist you, should contact them BEFORE THE TRIP about the best way to handle the trophies coming back to the U.S. i.e. should they be shipped directly to a tannery or to a broker close to your home?
One thing about the animals in this area, the skins are generally in very good condition due to there not being as much thorn and ticks as in other areas of Africa.
We DO recommend that whatever you do USE A GOOD BROKER in the U.S.
The cost of taxidermy will vary with what animals you have taken, if you are getting only a Dip & Pack & ship or Full Mounting services.
YOU ARE going to have costs for taxidermy anyway you look at it.
Minimum cost getting to the U.S. is Dip Pack / Raw Prep & Ship, BUT you will still have taxidermy in the US or in your home country.
There are also brokerage and custom fees once the shipment hits the US as well as courier costs / delivery costs to your house or your taxidermist in U.S.A. or home country.
So, a very broad and average estimate to give hunters an idea for budgeting:-
1) To get an animal shoulder mounted in South Africa, shipped and delivered to your home overseas is about a total of approximately $ 1300 - 1700 per animal
2) Raw prep / Dip, pack and Ship, delivered to your taxidermist is about $ 450 - 650 per animal (Then you still have taxidermy costs your end).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CERTAIN SPECIES  / PACKING and SHIPPING - Swine, Primates, and Rodentia

1) There are no special conditions on any mounted trophies going to the USA apart from the normal export import permit regulations. This includes Swine, Primates, and Rodentia. All can be packed together with other mounted species.

2) Dip & Pack : The status quo remains wherein Swine, Primates, and Rodentia need to be packed separately for inspection by USDA and / or CDC, so that the balance of the trophies are not delayed in delivery, or can be delivered independently to a different final destination depending on the requirements of the importer.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note : With regards to Insurance of the trophies upon export, it is calculated on the current average trophy and taxidermy price. Insurance would cover loss or damage up to the Port of Entry. If lost or damaged, insurance will cover a replacement item or repairs from a local Taxidermist in the country of destination.

The hunt, flights and accommodation is not insurable.

Certain species will incur a hunter additional charges on arrival in your country eg. USA : USDA, FWS, CDC, CITIES Exam / inspection and permit fees, which are minimal but there. eg. Monkeys, Baboons, Warthog ( disease check ), Cats and Bontebok ( Cities ), see about this and more on
